R707 spring for Hörmann
Price:
152.53 EUR + VAT
-The spring is about 7 cm longer than the original ( R707 )spring.
Our R707 spring is longer than the original Hörmann R707 spring but the lifting force is the same. Your garage door will work perfectly with our R707 spring.
Because of the lenght the lifetime of the spring is longer than the original. So you should replace it later than if you order the original spring.
ATTENTION: Check the needed space on the axis. If you have enough space on the axis then you can install it. It will work perfectly. So you should replace the newly installed spring later than if you have bought the original one.
Needed space on the axis for installation: 1040 mm
We are not writing the lenght of the spring. We write the needed space on the axis here!!!
The explanation of the needed space on the axis: (photo)
-Guaranteed opening cycle: 10000
The springs are galvanised inside and outside. The lifting force of the spring is the same as the (R707) original spring so it’s lifting the garage door very precisely. When adjusting it, you have to put the same turns as the previous spring. The turning number is written on the Hörmann garage door. The spring does not include the spring tension plug. The lifetime of the spring is the same as the original or has more lifetime opening than the original

What kind of spring do I need?
The type number of the spring is written on the aluminium label at the end of the spring.
This piece of label often falls off. If this happens, you should look at the data plate next to the “feder links / feder rechts” subtitle. If you do not see type numbers on your garage door data plate, then I have bad news. You should measure the spring.
Measure of the Hörmann branded spring.
If you do not know what exact spring you really need, then do not buy one. Just write us.
The lenght of the R707 spring? And the diameter?
We are not writing the the physical measurements of the R707 spring, because measure a streched out, broken spring and identify it with the measurements is very difficult. There is a lot of opportunity for mistakes. Couple of milimeter of measuring inaccuracy and you will choose the wrong spring from the list. Not to mention in most of the webshops the measurements of the original springs are listed inaccurately. Around every 10th spring is chosen incorrectly by customer and customer sends it back to us, because they can not absolutely use the bought spring. This is an unnecessary extra cost and time. We ask you to measure both side of the spring based on the measuring help and send the the measurement to us by email. Also measure the height of the garage door and the width of the garage door and send a photo of the garage door dataplate.
If the spring above just similar (not the same) to your spring, write us rather then purchase the wrong one and losing time with returning it and resending the new one.
Different measured and numbered springs on your garage door?
Yes! In the case of Hörmann garage doors, you can not be sure to install the same (R707) springs on both sides. It might look the same to your eyes, but it might not be the same numbered spring. Check the aluminium label on both sides of the springs. Or check the data plate, if the label is missing.
Do I have to change both springs?
No. You do not have to. But it is suggested. Do not change both springs, if you do not have enough money for it. It is possible, that the spring can last for 1 more year. If you are able to buy both springs in same time financially, then I suggest you do it so. In this case, there will be only 1 installation cost. The garage door repairmen usually recommend to change both of the spring on the garage door because the still intact (not broken) spring sometimes break during the replacing of the broken spring. This is very unpleasent for the garage door repairmen and does not know how to explain to the owner of the garage door that is not their fault. Overall if you can, replace both of the springs so you have less problem in long period.
Do you have older type numbered springs (2 digits)?
If you have 2 digit numbered springs then look for it on our website. The old and new type numbered springs are not the same. Hörmann has changed the type numbers and the springs as well. This means that they are not exactly the same and the ones marked with the new type number are not necessarily more durable or better.
Therefore, we do not force a new spring on you, but in our selection you can also find a copy of the old spring, marked with the old type number. Always order the exact type numbered spring because it lifts your Hörmann garage door perfectly.
Why are we not giving aluminium spring tension plug?
Because you do not need it. Never going to fail / break. With a good quality pair of side cutters, you can pull out the spiral pin (spiral tension sleeve) and install the new spring. Do not pay unnecessarly for spare parts if you have no trouble with it. Of course we can send it along with the spring with extra charge.
L707 or R707?
Based on the photo you can decide which spring has Right rotation (R) and which has Left rotation (L).
Identifying a spring based on the photo. Photo shows the end of the spring. Do not look at which side the spring is installed on the garage door.
In the case of the L700, the “L” represents the rotation of the spring winding. The L as Left and R as right in english. Does not mean that the spring is installed on the left or the right side of the garage door. An R (right) rotation spring can be on the left side of the garage door.
In every garage door there are 1 piece of left ROTATION and 1 piece of right ROTATION spring.
It is rare to have 2 same numbered springs on 1 garage door. (For example: L707 and R707)
Use the help to identify the direction of rotation of the spring.
Before installing the R707 spring
If possible do not use the Hörmann sectionel garage door until the new R707 spring is installed. If it is not possible then replace the spring with by hand. Unhook the spring break safety to be able to close the garage door. When you moving the garage door with the garage door operator you should lift with it by hand, too. When closing, you should lift the weight of the garage door a little by hand.
During the installation of the R707 spring
If you experience that our R707 spring is little bit longer or made with thicker wire, do not worry. Install it to your garage door. You will not find difference in operation.
Your old, used spring is weaker than the new spring. So you may not have to tension the new spring with the same turns. Read on the dataplate how many turns you should tension to the new spring.
After the installation
If you feel like the R707 is not working properly please contact us. We will try to help you what kind of installation failure has happend. If by mistake you ordered the wrong spring we will try to help you find the correct spring for your garage door.
Does the R707 spring breaks often?
A spring on Hörmann residental garage door lasts at least 5 years but can be up to 17-20 years.
If a spring lasts less than 5 years, there are 3 reasons. 2 of the reasons is coming from the wrong installation and 1 reason from overusing. We are going to explain it.
The first reason: excessive usage of the garage door
The Hörmann residential doors are designed for around 5 openings per day. This opening number should be kept. If the whole family uses the garage door for passing they can easily multiply the planned opening so in that case the springs have to be changed every 2-3 years. The easiest option is to change this habit and use the main door for passing. There are some situations when it’s not possible to reduce the traffic. This is the case for example when residential garage doors are installed on apartment buildings. If there are not 2 cars behind the garage doors but 20, the garage door is 10 times more loaded. The Hörmann residential garage doors handle it well but need to be serviced frequently. A good solution can be the R707 spring with an increased opening number. We can individually manufacture springs that have the same lifting force as the original R707 springs but can withstand much more opening. Unfortunately we do not sell these springs in the shop yet, but if you want to buy spring like that, write to the contact information below.
Second reason: overstrain
Check what is written on the data plate and put the turns on the spring. Important to know that this is an approximate value and sometimes you have to deviate from it minimally. The spring raising is good when the garage door in half opened state is not moving upwards or downwards on its own. Check it after a month to make sure the spring did not weaken. Adjust the spring if weakened. If you put more turns on the spring than what Hörmann suggested, the lifetime of the spring is going to be less. Overstretching means when you put more turns to the springs than it's written on the garage data plate. Do not overstretch the spring.
Third reason: winding compressed
Another common mistake is that the windings are compressed. Tensioning the spring is happening with a closed garage door. In this condition a little bit of space should be between the windings. It’s enough if a paper sheet can fit between the windings. If that works, no problem. If the space is not enough for a paper sheet, pull the windings apart. BE CAREFUL! RISK OF INJURY! Leave to the specialist to pull the windings apart.
If you want to buy a spring for the other side of your garage door you can choose from the following springs.
