• The spring may have a yellow or white label with a three-digit number. It may be preceded by the letter L or R, for example: 517 or R517.
• The number may also be shown on the garage door data plate.
• If you cannot find the spring type number in either of the places above, measure both springs using the Measurement guide. Also take photographs following the Photography guide.

The spring type number is sometimes shown on the data plate, but not always. It is always stamped into the plate at the end of the spring. It is often located beneath the plastic or metal roller bracket. Remove the roller to find the type number. The type number begins with FPS, for example: FPS 019.

You may not be able to see the type number without removing the spring, because it is on the inside of the metal plate. The type number begins with FPE, for example: FPE 025.
